Description

The Little Hagia Sophia Mosque (Turkish: Küçük Ayasofya Camii) is a mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. This historic building was originally a Byzantine church called "Hagia Sophia," but it was later converted into a mosque.

The mosque was built in the 6th century AD as a Byzantine church and was known as "Hagia Sophia." During the reign of Emperor Justin II, the church underwent extensive restoration after being damaged by an earthquake. In the Middle Ages, it was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman conquest by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in 1453.

The Little Hagia Sophia Mosque is distinguished by its beautiful Byzantine design, reflecting the influence of the Middle Ages on Islamic architecture. Today, the mosque serves as both a tourist attraction and a place of worship for Muslims in Istanbul.
